A reliable and easy to use 2D grid of desktops designed to mimic Apple’s Spaces implementation but with a number of very useful extra features
Inspired by the Apple Spaces functionality, TotalSpaces is an unobtrusive status bar menu app that mimics the same behavior while providing additional capabilities. TotalSpaces comes with a plethora of customization options that enable you to change the spaces layout, circulation, transitions, and more.
Easy to install and setup software solution for creating personalized spaces
The TotalSpaces application automatically installs all required dependencies at first launch (asks for permission first), and places a small menu in your status bar that allows you to quickly switch between spaces. Note that the TotalSpaces software archive also includes an uninstall tool that completely removes the app from your system.
To help you get around, TotalSpaces sports an overview grid that provides a preview area for each space, allows you to quickly switch between them, and can be activated by using a hotkey. Via the TotalSpaces Preferences you can customize the layout of this grid, and add as many additional spaces as you like.
Effortlessly manage your desktops and customize the way in which you switch between spaces
TotalSpaces offers you the possibility to employ different animation transitions when moving between spaces, allows you to adjust the transitions speed, and can even put in place a circulation pattern. For your convenience, TotalSpaces also enables you to slide between desktops by using your trackpad.
In addition, TotalSpaces comes with predefined hotkeys that can help you change the space, or move the current window. You have the option to activate the overview grid or the expose by using mouse buttons, by defining hot corners, or you can setup new keyboard combinations. Last but not least, you get to assign certain apps to specific spaces.
More powerful alternative to Apple's native Spaces manager
To sum it all up, if you are looking for the same Apple styled Spaces functionality, but you need more flexible options when if comes to switching between desktops, and managing their content, TotalSpaces certainly gets the job done.
What’s new in TotalSpaces 2.6.24
- FIXED: Mouse location is now correctly found even when using window managers that cause it to be teleported.
- FIXED: Fixed visibility of windows when zooming in and out to the overview grid in 10.13.4.
- REMOVED: The above fix required removing the Whole Grid Zoom option, unfortunately this is no longer available in High Sierra.
- IMPROVED: Hotcorner detection works better now with certain external monitor configurations.
