Integrated sculpting tools
Brush-based sculpting is now available in Maya LT, letting you sculpt on a model without having to export to a different application. Especially when you need to make small adjustments, you'll appreciate the time savings. Basic starter meshes are included with the tools, which you can use as a starting point or just to help you learn faster.
Physically based ShaderFX nodes
A new physically based shading material in ShaderFX lets you create more realistic and higher quality materials, getting closer to the effect you want in Maya LT before you export to your game engine.
Improved animation tools
Spline IK and Cluster deformers are now available in Maya LT, which means you can animate non-humanoid characters more easily. Exporting animation is much easier and faster with the new and improved Game Exporter, which makes it easier and simpler to manage the export of multiple animation clips.
Look for the following improvements to the Maya LT 2016 viewport when viewing your models:
- Maya LT now loads textures in the background, so that you can begin working on a scene faster, without waiting for all the textures to load first.
- You can now enable a fog effect to help you focus only on the object closest to the viewport camera, which provides a quick way to assess distance from the camera to an object, and makes manipulation easier.

Includes support for EXR floating-point data and for the Autodesk® Color Management component (SynColor), the OpenColorIO open source project, and the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES), which enables consistent color-safe handling of imagery across The Foundry's NUKE® software, Adobe® Photoshop® software, Autodesk® Flame® family of products, and other applications to help ensure color compatibility throughout the studio pipeline.
Third parties can take advantage of the SDK to implement support for the Maya Color Management system in other renderers and applications that work with Maya.
The new Performance Profiler helps technical directors gauge, measure, and debug the performance of individual nodes, character rigs, and Maya scenes.
Take advantage of a graphical interface that enables performance measurement and graphing for dirty propagation, evaluation, deformations, rendering, Qt events, XGen instancing, and Bifrost simulations.
A robust API gives you the option to extend the Performance Profiler for use with custom tools and plug-ins.
