XRevert, as the name suggests, changes the icons in OS X Yosemite (10.10) back to the icons from earlier OS X versions. This includes icons for all built-in apps, menu bar icons such as the battery icon, Finder icons such as external drive icons and the default folder icon, and even the icons for preference panes in System Preferences. Now, you can enjoy all of the amazing new features in OS X Yosemite without losing the 3D look and feel of the operating system.
XRevert goes beyond the icons. It also changes the system fonts back to the fonts used in OS X Mavericks. It will even remove the blur effect from the login screen background.
Although it does not currently offer this, a future version of XRevert will change other aspects of the UI as well, such as window backgrounds and buttons.
XRevert does not currently change the Dock back to Mavericks' dock design. To do this, we recommend using cDock.
If there is an OS X update available, this may change the icons back to Yosemite's default icons. Fortunately, XRevert retains a copy of all the correct icons, so just run it again after updating.
After XRevert downloads, move it to your Applications folder, then launch it. If you get a message that it is from an unidentified developer, right click on XRevert and click Open. After it opens, click Run and XRevert will get right to work. You will have to restart your Mac when it is done. After restarting, if your icons aren't changed, running XRevert again will offer a "Retry" option. Otherwise, try manually restarting your Mac for a second time.
